ZIG IS A TRAP: ZANU PF’S MONEY GAMBLE WILL DESTROY US AGAIN

Zimbabwe is in serious trouble again. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor, John Mushayavanhu, now wants the ZiG to become the only currency people can use. But this move, according to experts, is a dangerous gamble that could destroy the little that’s left of our already fragile economy. It’s a repeat of the same failed experiments that brought us pain before.

Mushayavanhu claims ZiG is now strong, stable, and ready to serve as Zimbabwe’s sole legal tender. But the so-called stability is a lie built on low usage. Right now, the government itself still uses US dollars to buy fuel, pay for passports, and collect certain taxes. If the ZiG is so strong, why is the government afraid to use it for its own critical transactions? That’s the question being asked by respected economist Professor Gift Mugano, who has warned that the ZiG is not truly stable — it only looks that way because nobody uses it.

This fake confidence is not just local concern. Steve Hanke, a professor of applied economics from the United States, said Zimbabwe’s previous currency was the third worst in the world. Now, the country has introduced the ZiG while still following the same bad habits. The money supply is exploding — growing at 122% per year — and inflation is now sitting at 79%. These are signs of disaster, not stability.

We know what happens when Zimbabwe prints too much money. Prices go up fast. Salaries become worthless. Transport becomes unaffordable. Basic items like bread and cooking oil disappear from shelves or become too expensive for ordinary people. The same thing will happen again if we allow ZANU PF and its officials to force ZiG onto a suffering population.

We’ve seen this movie before. When ZANU PF destroyed the Zimbabwe dollar, people carried plastic bags full of useless notes just to buy bread. Then we switched to the US dollar, and for a moment, life improved. But then, greed and arrogance returned — and so did the local currency. Now the ruling party wants to make the same mistake again, just with a new name.

Mushayavanhu is selling false hope. He is playing with numbers, promising strength that doesn’t exist. There is no working economic system in place. There is no trust in government. Investors are not coming. Corruption is everywhere. Zimbabweans are struggling just to survive, and making the ZiG our only currency will crush them further.

Right now, ordinary Zimbabweans prefer the US dollar. So do businesses, churches, schools, hospitals. They trust it because it works. They don’t want to be forced to use a new currency that could collapse at any moment. The truth is simple: ZiG is not the solution. It is another ticking time bomb.

ZANU PF does not learn. It repeats the same mistakes and expects different results. But Zimbabweans are not blind. We see the warning signs. We hear the lies. And we remember the suffering. This new plan is not about helping the people. It’s about control, deception, and survival for a regime that has run out of ideas.

Zimbabweans must rise and speak out. We must say no to the ZiG being forced on us. No to another experiment with our lives. No to another economic collapse that will only make the rich richer and the poor poorer. The economy is not a toy, and we are not guinea pigs. It’s time to stop this madness before it destroys us all again.
