TRABALAS INTERCHANGE IS JUST ANOTHER BIG LIE

Today, Emmerson Mnangagwa is opening the new road project in Harare. They call it the Trabalas Interchange. Some are even jokingly calling it the “Trababas Interchange.” Many people are not happy about it. They say it is just another way for the government to waste money. They say the quality is bad, but the cost is too high.

The government says the interchange cost US$88 million. But people are asking why it cost that much when it looks so poor. People are angry because the road already has cracks and signs of bad work. It is not even fully open yet, but you can see it is not good.

If you look at other countries, the difference is clear. In South Africa, there is a better road in Durban called the Mount Edgecombe Interchange. That road is bigger and stronger. It cost only US$65.9 million. So how can our smaller road cost more money? Something is wrong. Many Zimbabweans are asking the same question.

This road project looks like a trick. It looks like someone is trying to hide something. People believe the road was just an excuse to steal public money. The company that built the road is called Fossil Contracting. That company belongs to Obey Chimuka. He is a known friend of Kudakwashe Tagwirei. Both of them are connected to ZANU PF. That makes many people think the money went to friends of the government.

There was no open process to pick the company. There is no full report to show how the money was spent. No one knows who approved the cost or why. People are tired of this kind of corruption. The same people get rich. The poor remain poor. There is no shame. Even when people are hungry, they are told to clap for lies.

This is not new in Zimbabwe. We have seen it before. Roads are built, but they do not last. Clinics have no medicine. Schools have no books. But government officials keep talking about progress. They say “Zimbabwe is open for business,” but what business? Only their business. Only their pockets get full.

This road is not development. It is just another show. A way to lie to the people. A way to give jobs and money to friends. The people see through this now. They know that the Trabalas Interchange is not for them. It is for the few at the top who keep stealing and smiling.

Even the name of the road feels like a joke. Naming it after the president does not make things better. It only makes people more angry. Because there is no bread, no jobs, no clean water, no fuel, but they want us to smile at a broken road with the president’s name on it.

Zimbabweans are not stupid. They are watching. They are asking questions. They are tired of the lies. They want real leadership, not a government of thieves. They want real change, not fake roads. Not fake promises. Not fake speeches.

We must continue to speak out. We must keep writing and shouting and marching. We must not allow them to keep lying to us. That US$88 million could have helped millions of people. Instead, it helped a few already rich men.

This is why we fight. This is why we say no. This is why we stand up. Because Zimbabwe is not a playground for the corrupt. It is our home. It is our future. And we will not let them destroy it any longer. Enough is enough.
