PARLIAMENT HAS BECOME A CRIME SCENE IN ZIMBABWE

Parliament of Zimbabwe is no longer trusted by many people. It is now being called a crime scene. This is because most Members of Parliament (MPs) are not working for the people anymore. They are working for themselves. They are only thinking about money, land, and protecting President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Many people believe Mnangagwa is now scared of losing his job. There are talks that he may be removed through impeachment.
Impeachment is when a president can lose power because they have done something wrong. This can be breaking the law or failing to lead the country. Now, many Zimbabweans believe that MPs are being bribed to stop the impeachment. It has been reported that a group of MPs met in Mabelreign, Harare. After the meeting, they were given land as a reward. These stands were given so that they would protect Mnangagwa by voting against his removal.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works confirmed that 70 stands were given to MPs just a few days ago. These stands were shared in three areas. In Killarney, 15 stands were given. In Penrose, Zvimba, 15 stands were also given. In Mabelreign, Harare, 40 stands were handed out. This is the highest number.
The government said this is not a new thing. They said this programme started in 2013. They called it a “non-monetary benefit” to help MPs with housing. This means instead of money, they give MPs land. The Ministry said that MPs from the 8th Parliament (2013-2018), the 9th Parliament (2018-2023), and the 10th Parliament (2023 to now) have all been given land.
They also shared that Parliament got stands in many places across the country. Goromonzi received 188 stands. Bulawayo got 49. Chiredzi got 12. Kadoma got 9. Beit Bridge got 5. But the problem now is the timing. Why are more stands being given now, when the president is facing pressure?
The Ministry gave a press statement on 9 April 2025. They said the 70 stands were part of their normal housing support plan for MPs. They also said that other groups like war veterans, women, youths, and civil servants are also being given land. But many people are not buying this explanation. They believe the real reason is to stop the impeachment.
Job Sikhala and his group, the National Democratic Working Group, said Parliament has become a crime scene. He said MPs are now working to protect Mnangagwa and not to serve the people. The group said MPs have been captured. They are now being used to cover up corruption and protect power.
People are angry. They ask why MPs are getting free land while most Zimbabweans are homeless or living in poor places. Ordinary citizens cannot even dream of getting land in Mabelreign or Zvimba. Land in these areas is too expensive. Most people are struggling to find jobs and food. But MPs who are already being paid well are getting free land.
This is why people now believe that the MPs are not on the side of the people. They are on the side of the president. They are protecting him because he is giving them gifts. This has made people lose trust in Parliament. A place that should speak for the people is now being used to defend one man.
Zimbabwe is watching. Will the MPs vote to protect Mnangagwa? Or will they listen to the people who voted for them? What we are seeing now is not just about land. It is about corruption. It is about power. It is about the future of the country.
This is a dark time for Zimbabwe. But the people are awake. They are watching. And they will remember.
