ZANU PF LOOTS PENSIONERS’ MONEY WHILE THEY FIGHT FOR POWER

The fight for the top job at the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) is a big sign that Zimbabwe is broken. This is not just about who becomes the boss. It is about how powerful people are stealing from the poor, and no one is stopping them. NSSA controls over US$1.2 billion. This money is for pensioners who worked all their lives. But now, greedy people are fighting to control it, not to help anyone, but to help themselves.

Since July 2022, NSSA has had no permanent general manager. Arthur Manase, who had the job before, was suspended for corruption. He later left with 30 charges against him. He was accused of abusing his position and taking money he should not have taken.

After that, Dr Charles Shava became acting general manager. In 2023, a company was hired to find a new permanent boss. Some people passed the interviews, others failed. But reports say the process was full of cheating. Some people’s names were removed for no reason. Others were pushed forward even if they were not the best.

Two names came out on top—Gilfern Moyo and Tendai Kapumha. But now the NSSA board is fighting. Chairman Emmanuel Fundira wants Moyo. Another board member, Allen Choruma, wants Kapumha. Both want someone they can control.

Fundira is said to be pushing for a deal with a company called TTCS. This company was already paid US$10 million to deliver software, but failed. Now, Fundira wants them back again, starting with US$1.8 million in advance. People say this deal smells like corruption.

At the same time, Dr Shava was quietly chosen by top government leaders. President Mnangagwa, Minister Edgar Moyo, and top official Simon Masanga all agreed he should be appointed. A letter was written on 1 March 2025 to give him the job. But Fundira refuses to make it official.

Instead, Shava is now under attack. Newspapers like The Herald are writing bad things about him. Insiders say these stories are not real—they are being made up by Fundira and his friends. First, they said Shava gave doctors ZW$12 million without approval. But the case did not go anywhere. Then they leaked his salary. They said he would earn over US$15,000 a month, plus many benefits—bonuses, DStv, a car loan, even domestic workers.

This leak was meant to make Zimbabweans angry. Pensioners only get US$60 a month, while the bosses fight over luxury. But the real reason they are attacking Shava is not because of his salary. It’s because they want him out of the way. They want to give the job to someone who will help them loot NSSA again.

Since 2015, NSSA has had many leaders come and go. No one stays. Every time a new boss comes, they are pushed out. There is no stability. And when there is no stability, pensioners suffer.

This fight shows what is wrong with Zimbabwe. The people in power are not thinking about pensioners. They are thinking about themselves. NSSA is supposed to help people who worked hard their whole lives. But now, it is just another playground for ZANU PF.

The system is broken. Until we fix it, the rich will keep stealing, and the poor will keep crying. Zimbabwe needs leaders who care. Not leaders who steal.

The NSSA story is not just one story. It is the same story again and again. Power. Greed. Corruption. And the people suffer.

It is time to fight back. We must not be silent. The truth must be told. This is not just politics. This is about people’s lives.
